CDP-502 CD Player
CDP-502 Reference Disc Player
Advances in technology mean it is now possible to design products which do not distinguish between audiophiles and videophiles, and meet the expectations of both. A fusion of the acclaimed CDP-300 and CDP-202 disc players, the CDP-502 is a member of this new generation of elite components. Designed without compromise, optimized for both video and audio, it is without doubt our flagship source component and the ultimate choice for those who love music and movies and simply want the best.
A consummate performer, the CDP-502 brings synergy without sacrifice. With video derived from the CDP-300, it is the perfect match for today’s world class displays, offering state-of-the-art video circuitry that can upscale standard definition DVD video into high definition 1080p. First introduced in the CDP-202, its analog circuitry is a masterpiece of electronic engineering that conjures stereo resolution of stunning refinement and depth. Integrating these two designs involves no loss of quality, no give and take, making the CDP-502 a win-win solution for anybody who has built a library of CDs and DVDs.
As our flagship source component, the CDP-502 naturally benefits from the sleek industrial design and revolutionary touchscreen that make the Delta series so beautifully easy to use. But it is more than meets the eye. Its elegant slot loading mechanism is designed to protect the disc by drawing it in by its edge, thereby ensuring that the playing surface remains untouched. Its intuitive touchscreen doubles as a video preview screen. Every detail, including the construction of the chassis, supports the reference quality objective of the design. Beneath the surface the same standards apply. As with all Classé components, the unit is manufactured to IPC J-STD-001D and inspected to IPC 610D Class 3, standards which are usually reserved for applications demanding ultimate performance and reliability in real world conditions, such as life support.
The CDP-502 is the product of Classé’s passion for quality across the board. For the new generation of audio-videophiles it is the best of both worlds.
CDP-502 Summary Points
Video
• Full implementation of all HDTV resolutions.
• Analog video output on component at 480i, 480p, 576i and 576p resolutions. Standard Definition video available on S-video and composite.
• Digital Video output on HDMI can be de-interlaced and scaled to the following resolutions: 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p.
• Extensive digital video processing to reduce video "mosquito" noise, improve edge definition, adaptively control color/contrast ratios and improve chroma transient performance.
Audio
• Compatible with CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, MP3, WMA. dts-CD, Video-CD and S-VCD formats.
• All audio formats are up-sampled to 24-bit/192kHz prior to Digital-to-Analog conversion.
• All audio formats are decoded internally before Digital-to-Analog conversion. A concurrent IEC958 (SPDIF, AES/EBU and TOSLINK) output is provided.
• Audio from DVD playback is output as IEC958 (SPDIF, AES/EBU and TOSLINK) for decoding in a Surround Sound Processor with a concurrent 2-channel analog audio downmix.
• Two channel DVD-Audio is output via the 2 channel analog outputs. Multichannel DVD-Audio output is determined by disc authoring
• Left and Right channel analog audio outputs are provided with both XLR (balanced) and RCA (single-ended) connections.
• Analog outputs may be selected for fixed or variable.
• CDP-502 audio section comes from the CDP-202, our reference two channel component that has no HDMI output. The CDP-502 HDMI output is therefore a dedicated video output that should be used in conjunction with a SPDIF coax connection. With the exception of some multichannel DVD-Audio recordings, the CDP-502’s digital audio outputs will supply the same signal as would otherwise be available on HDMI.
Control
• Touchscreen user interface with video preview mode.
• Bi-Directional RS-232 Control.
• CAN Bus ports for inter-Classé component communication.
• Rear panel IR and DC trigger sockets.
• IR Remote control with backlight and Classé system Function Keys.
